AUMA is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. In September, the company invited employees, families and friends to a big anniversary celebration at its headquarters in Müllheim, Germany.
When the company was founded in 1964 in Nellingen, close to Stuttgart, it already bore the brand name AUMA and a clear business plan. Armaturen- Und MaschinenAntriebe – AUMA for short – would become a manufacturer of electric actuators for industrial valves. Werner Riester was responsible for R&D while Rudolf Dinse looked after sales and finance. The young company developed successfully in its founding years and in 1971 moved to Müllheim to expand further.
Today, AUMA has over 2 800 employees worldwide and a turnover of more than half a billion euros. AUMA actuators are used worldwide in water and wastewater treatment, flood protection, power generation, oil and gas, and other industries. They ensure reliability and safety in almost all areas of our daily lives.
With 850 employees at its headquarters in Müllheim, AUMA is one of the largest employers in the region. AUMA also has a global presence, with 30 sales and service companies worldwide, three production sites in Germany and additional production units in India, the USA and China.
“I was always convinced that our company would be successful,” said company co-founder Werner Riester, “but I would never have thought that we would one day become the global market leader for electric actuators.”

On 22 September 2024, the company celebrated its success story with more than 3,000 invited guests consisting of employees, their families and friends.
“We would like to thank our employees,” said CEO Dr. Jörg Hoffmann and CSO Ferdinand Dirnhofer. “AUMA’s success is the result of many years of hard work, loyalty and a high level of commitment from all our employees.”
Visitors saw the modern production facilities on tours of the factory halls and employees were proud to show their guests the company where they work. There was great interest in the training workshop, where activities included fishing for soft toys controlled by robotic arms.
Throughout the day, guests enjoyed the culinary delights of numerous food trucks and the company restaurant. There was entertainment for the many children on the company’s own soccer pitch with a bouncy castle, human table football and lots of games. On the central stage Julica Goldschmidt, the presenter and stadium announcer from local soccer club SC Freiburg, interviewed guests, hosted a quiz and provided entertainment with live broadcasts from the grounds.
In the foyer of the administration building, key milestones in the company’s development were exhibited in sound and image recordings, and employees were invited to express their wishes, ideas and thoughts for the future of the company. These were collected and transferred to a mural by a graphic designer.
“The effort and the months of preparation were worth it! We saw so many happy faces and received nothing but positive feedback,” said Renée Duille and Oliver Baumann from the AUMA organisation team. “It was overwhelming how many employees came to the event to celebrate together.”
Looking to the future, AUMA wants to continue to promote a sense of community within the company to help maintain its leading position in the global market and to continue to provide the best electric actuators worldwide.
