AUMA Riester is top innovator

Lothar Späth awarded the mechanical engineering company in Muellheim the “Top 100” seal of quality for outstanding innovation Management.

The mentor of the SME initiative herewith honoured the merits of AUMA within the categories “Top Management Innovation”, “Innovation Climate”, “Innovative Processes and Organisation”, “Marketing Innovation” as well as “Successful Innovations”.

The engineering company, founded in 1964, which now employs 930 people, was decorated in particular for its top management acting as driving factor for innovations. In 2008, the manufacturer of drive technology for valves achieved a turnover of approx. 340 m Euro.

“The innovation process requires optimum coordination and communication – this is the assignment of top management”, explains the Managing Director, Matthias Dinse.

To demonstrate the degree of involvement by the leadership within the innovation process, a “Board of Scientific and Technical Intelligence” has been initiated, consisting of company management, R & D management as well as external scientists. The top management involvement within the innovation process becomes quite clear when looking at the support given to the predominantly autonomous innovation project teams.

A perfect example is the implementation of the so-called state-gate-process. This tool allows the independent assessment of the performance potential of the innovative idea by all members of staff. The company certainly does not lack in suggestions as many staff members are free to use part of their working time to develop new ideas and this outside the official development program. AUMA supports this creative potential by working closely with academies and universities.
